Peace Bridge

The construction of the Peace Bridge has started and is almost complete. The bridge is a multi-award-winning design that pushed the boundaries of structure, transportation, and design. Its construction was overseen by Stantec, which provided structural and electrical consulting services and contract administration for Santiago Calatrava. You can walk or bike across the bridge in about 10 minutes. The bridge has a remarkably low height, at a shaded 65 meters above sea level.

The project is largely a success despite controversy. After a design competition, the city selected Santiago Calatrava to design the bridge. In early 2009, Calatrava travels to Calgary to review the project and sign the contract. The city council voted to name the pedestrian bridge Peace Bridge, a tribute to the military and peace. Some critics say the name is a cheap way to win the city’s support.

The Peace Bridge in Calgary is a criss-cross structure and pedestrian/cycle bridge spanning the Bow River. It features a dedicated center bike lane for cyclists and has a distinctive shape. Its design resembles a futuristic time warp tube. Located in downtown Calgary, it is a popular destination for locals, tourists, and tourists alike. If you are visiting Calgary, be sure to take a few minutes to explore the Peace Bridge.

The bridge was built without any piers in the water, which made it feel as if it were floating. It was fabricated on dry land and moved across the Bow River in November 2011. A year later, it was lowered onto permanent abutments. This meant that it was finally open to the public. By the end of March 2012, the bridge was ready for public use. It is a magnificent example of engineering.
